New JCB excavators supports booming trade

Bristol Port’s investment to boost its agricultural trade operations has continued with the purchase of two new bespoke excavators for ship trimming. With a boom in the Port’s grain and animal feed business, it is hoped the investment will further improve efficiency and safety.

Manufactured in the UK by JCB, the X series 150X is a 15-tonne machine, which has been tailored through an engineering partnership with the Port to design the lifting points and make modifications to suit the environment the machines will be working in.

Lucy Ellis, Development Engineer, said: “We wanted to ensure that safety was the top priority, so we reviewed the design of our excavators to make it easier to clean and stop dust from getting in, which can be a potential fire hazard when working with grain and animal feeds. We also made some other improvements to the design, including hinged hatch doors for ease of cleaning. So far it has been a great partnership with JCB and Bristol Port, which this fantastic machine is the result of.”

A successful test lift has been carried out, and the excavators will be fully operational shortly.
